“Arvo Pärt: Out of Silence” Title Debuts in NYC
On April 16, 2015, the “Live Ideas Festival,” sponsored by New York Live Arts, featured the life and work of composer Arvo Pärt. Renowned musician Laurie Anderson, the festival’s curator, enlisted the help of the Arvo Pärt Project (APP) at St. Vladimir’s Seminary to plan and organize three events around the theme “Arvo Pärt: Journeys in Silence.”
The festival provided the ideal venue to launch a new book, Arvo Pärt: Out of Silence (SVS Press, 2015), by Peter C. Bouteneff, co-founder of the APP. The author held several book signings throughout the day.
Professor Bouteneff noted, “I wrote this book with a widely diverse readership in mind — within and also outside the Orthodox Church. The enthusiasm of this festival audience for our panel discussions, and for my book, was so exciting to see. St. Vladimir’s Seminary’s deeper engagement with the arts — visual and musical — is already having tangible implications for its outreach into communities we’ve never before been able to engage.”
